Canadian MP Dr. Keith Martin speaks at Lyndon State College
Canadian MP Keith Martin, M.D., will speak at Lyndon State College March 15 at 7 p.m. in the Burke Mountain Room. The event is sponsored by the Lyndon State College Institute of Canadian Studies. His topic will be “North American Universities as Agents for International Change in the 21st Century.”
Dr. Martin was a practicing emergency room physician and general practitioner in 1993, when he was elected to Parliament for the riding of Esquimalt—Juan de Fuca, British Columbia as a liberal. He continued to practice until 2006, and has been re-elected in five general elections.
Dr. Martin has had a lengthy career promoting healthcare initiatives in Canada and Africa, perhaps most notably as founder of the Canadian Physicians Overseas Programme. He is currently working on developing Centres for International Health and Development (CIHDs), university-sponsored organizations that will work with developing countries to promote economic development and the general health of the citizenry. Dr. Martin will discuss CIHDs and how they can play an important role in the development of human capital in places around the globe where it is most needed.
This event is free; the public is encouraged to attend. For more information, please call Dr. David Plazek, director of the Canadian Institute, at 626-6241.
